My path as a childbirth educator began with my own experiences of pregnancy, birth and parenting.

Years ago, when I first became a mother, I knew on a deep level that the experience of growing, birthing and raising a baby was a profoundly beautiful and enormous endeavor -- physically, emotionally and spiritually. However, I had no guides or books, no models or mentors, no affirmation of that truth.

I bumbled and stumbled along, as most new parents do, and have over the past eight years come to inhabit the path of parenting as a spiritual practice, as an awesome privlege, and as a humbling lesson in how to live and love.

For you, that path begins now. As you gestate your baby and prepare to give birth, you have begun the sacred work of parenting – perhaps recommitting to it with a second or third child. As a childbirth educator, it is my joy and honor to accompany you for a while on that path, assisting in your self-discovery and learning, helping you birth your baby and yourself as a parent with presence, power and love.

In addition to my work and learning as a mother to Samson (2001), Oscar (2004) and Lucas (2008), I bring ten years of yoga practice, breathwork and mindfulness to my teaching. Yoga has taught me respect for the body, how to stay with and in the body, and trust in the body – all of which we need in order to birth.

As an apprentice to Tina Lilly, I have helped develop and teach the curriculum; and my understanding and awe of the birth process has deepened. My teaching is enhanced with storytelling, a good dose of humor and levity, reverence for my clients’ own knowing, remembrance of the spiritual aspects of birth and parenting, and great joy in getting to do this work.
